• Roller-skating – My new way of keeping fit in 2017!

    It’s the start of a new year and a good time to start a new hobby or sporting activity.

    Last year I received a pair of pink roller skates, and it’s taken me an entire year to pluck up the courage to tackle this sport. One thing you need to know about me is that I am terribly clumsy and always falling off my bicycle. (I am sure this has something to do with being tall)

    I never had the courage to try until my cousin Shaldene arrived at my apartment on her skateboard earlier this week. Skate-boarding is a new activity that she has started as part of her New Year’s resolution. So I dusted off my pink roller skates and joined her for a fun afternoon of learning to skate. We had a few laughs and spent about two hours together. Now we have scheduled a weekly skate session. This is a fun activity for us to do together to keep fit and hang out.

     

    Here are the health benefits from Roller Skating you never knew:

    • It’s good for the mood.
    • It’s a low impact sport that’s easy on the limbs and joints (provided you don’t fall)
    • It’ s a fantastic cross workout- a good arm as well as leg workout.
    • Its good core workout

    Once I’ve mastered the art of roller-skating I will definitely try out skateboarding .

    • It helps build key muscles like glutes, hamstrings, and quads.
    • Physical Endurance- this is a perfect wat to increase you physical endurance levels.
    • It improves flexibility and Balance.
    • It’s a fun way to burn calories

    It’s is a celebration of the City’s lifting of the ban on skateboarding & rollerblading on the Sea Point Promenade.

    It is a weekly (every Monday) sunset social-push/roll/skate in which all things “skate” come together to connect and share the Sea Point Promenade.

    Bring your skateboard/longboard/rollerblades/roller-skates and join the family at Queens Beach every Monday @ 6pm for a skate along the Promenade.
